Carers organisation support online health and wellbeing Mela

EDEN Carers, who provide support and advice for unpaid Carers have joined forces with the Rotary Club of Brampton & Longtown and North Cumbria Health & Care to take part in a virtual health and wellbeing event.

The North Cumbria Health and Wellbeing Mela event is now available to watch as a video, following a live online event on Friday (May 14). Eden Carers is one of several third sectors groups from across north Cumbria to take part.

Dani Leslie, Eden Carers CEO said: “It was a great opportunity to be part of an event that is helping people to care and look after themselves, and access information and advice. There are many people who are unpaid Carers, who may be unaware of the support and advice available to them, which can make their lives and those of the loved one they are caring for.

“The live event which the Rotary Club of Brampton & Longtown organised, the North Cumbria Health and Wellbeing Mela was excellent.

“Mela is a Sanskrit word which means information exchange and celebration, and this is exactly what the event was - a wonderful event we can now watch again and share with others via this video.

Kevin Walsh, a member of the Rotary Club of Brampton & Longtown, said: “In the last year we have been through some very challenging times. It is more important than ever that we do all we can to look after ourselves and each other. We will have films made by local teams covering a range of issues that might be helpful.

“We have a really proactive third sector in Cumbria that really know and support their community who have come up with a range of videos to help people look after themselves, as well some of our NHS colleagues giving helpful advice about health issues such as avoiding type 2 diabetes and stroke.”

The video includes presentations by or about; Cumbria Alcohol & Drug Advisory Service (CADAS), “Space to Talk”, Laughter Yoga, Dementia support, Social Prescribing for adults and young people, Falls prevention, Exercise and Dance for wellbeing, Diabetes, Stroke Prevention, support for Carers, Community Pharmacies, Citizens Advice and Rotary’s Polio campaign.
