Consultation is a vital part of our role, but one
that is overlooked by many carers.
From
time to time we are asked by Social Services to provide 'carer comment' on
various issues and we welcome feedback from carers who wish to have their say.
New Carers’ Strategy
The new 10 year Carers’ Strategy was launched during Carers' Week this June. We seem to have been waiting a long time but it looks as if the Government have actually listened to Carers. Amongst the main commitments are:
* Regular, planned respite breaks
* Annual Health checks for Carers
* Cover for Carers attending hospital appointments
* Greater awareness amongst employers for flexible working and recruitment of Carers
* Hospital and medical staff to treat Carers as experts
* Closer joint working between Health and Social Care services
* A National helpline
* Emergency/Crisis breaks cover

Now Cumbria will be reviewing their Carers' Strategy and your views are vital to make the Cumbria Carers' Strategy effective in our large very rural area. Eden Carers will be seeking your views so please come along to our 'drop ins' and coffee mornings, or just drop in to the office and give us your views so that we can influence local government to create a successful, relevant strategy.
